Frequency help please

Postby Dieselguzzler » Sun Jul 16, 2017 8:14 pm

Evening all,

I've been using my scanning directory and monitoring various frequencies, I can't seem to pick up anything north of Manchester up to Scottish west coast??
I've used most lakes frequencies etc...

Any advise please. I'm in Sunderland.

Topography & the fact that most VHF & UHF signals are relatively low power & designed to cover small local areas are the biggest factors.
Both VHF & UHF signals cannot get over hills.

Try 125.475 London Info North, which is transmitted from Great Dun Fell in Cumbria (54.683ºN 2.451ºW)

Use http://www.heywhatsthat.com/profiler.html to determine if you have line of sight reception. It suggests the Sunderland area should, but I don't know if any local hills affect you.

High level aircraft should be receivable anyway.

The NATS document ENR 2.1 lists all ATC frequencies, though it is not very user friendly, as the concept of a "map" has eluded them

I reserve the right to ignore people who have made no attempt to the read the manual, and expect others to do it for them.
