Trucker Frequency NE Scotland?

Postby MarkA » Wed Jan 27, 2016 11:47 pm

I was tuned into GB3NG listening in to a conversation a couple of weeks ago and someone mentioned a dedicated channel for trucks in the NE of Scotland. I (typically) didn't have a pen handy, but I seem to remember him saying it was 902/903/904.something mhz. I actually recognised the guy talking as someone I worked with some years ago so he would be talking about the Peterhead to Aberdeen area. I have searched up and down from 900 to 909 but have found nothing. The only channel that I can think of that would be used frequently by certain truckers over that way would be CB channel 7, but that obviously doesn't match what he was saying.

Has anyone else come across this frequency?

Thanks

Hello
That area of spectrum is where the mobile phones use to be & there is no legal use of it as anything resembling CB.
But they could still be using the old & now illegal to use 934mhz CB allocation

Maybe they just had the old 934MHz kit and nobody ever told them they couldn't use it? Like the thousands of radio mic users in channel 69, who never bothered with a license, so never got told it had been flogged of to 4G. Up in Scotland, if the trucks had these radios, they'd still be working fine?

Thanks for your replies, I'll have a listen around 934mhz and see if I can hear anything

That is entirely possible as news can take a while to filter up this way!

Even in the days of roaming story tellers I am sure 17 years was a long time. 934 radios have been illegal to use since 1999. Although the mobile phone companies are now not using that band, so the issues of using it, are less likely to result in complaints to ofcom from fee paying customers.
Some do still use 934, but the radios are a rather elderly now & getting difficult to find in working condition.
Personally I do not see why they would use 934, when CB is not only available, but so much better than it was, as it now has SSB & more channels available.
