Hello Russell. I can't say I know Aberystwyth very well, but my mother in law use to live a few minutes away from where they feed the Red Kites.
From what I know of your area & a radio amateur I use to talk to, who lived in the Aberystwyth area. VHF & UHF reception is going to be difficult to you. The closest amateur radio 2 meter repeater that you stand any chance of hearing is up in Snowdonia & hearing that will depend upon exactly where you live & how high your antenna is.
Hills present a big barrier to VHF & UHF & that inland hill is going to be impenetrable, so you simply have Aberystwyth, plus up & down the coast & the odd aircraft / ship to log.
Doing a google search on here I can only find some old shopwatch frequencies for Aberystwyth & most shopwatch frequencies are now digital.
I would suggest that your best chances of hearing anything on VHF or UHF are to be found on high ground with a antenna on something like a fibreglass roach pole. Although simply going to high ground will improve things. A car antenna will give a grain over that, but a antenna a few higher with some gain will give the best reception.

Well I am going on holiday near there but I do know that the RAF do do practice flights around the county side.

So will take my scanner and see what I can get. Not sure I will get anything from the RAF, did try last time I went.

I am not sure what I was doing last night, but this should have been posted here, instead of where it was posted.  :embarrased: :embarrased:

Having a question that draws in those interested in that area of listening will be more likely to get you the reply you want.
For me, Mil Air is simply something I have programmed into my scanner, but something I know much about, or listen to beyond a couple of frequencies.

The original question didn't mention military air if you actually bother to read it!
It was posted in the correct forum for the question.

I did read it & that is why I made the suggestion above. I originally posted my above quote, in response to this threads question, but I posted it on another thread   Hence my comment that I did not know where my head was when I posted it.. So to transfer my comment to the correct thread, I simply hit the quote button, copied it & then pasted it here.
