Anything interesting?

Postby ACL » Sat Sep 10, 2016 8:12 am

I've just dug out my G5 and have a longwire attached to the whip via a crocodile clip. The question is though is there much left with just a portable set up in an urban area? I only plan on listening sunset to sunrise. Are there any numbers stations still receiveable? I have ssb via a bfo but not selectable lsb/usb. Thanks in advance.

There are plenty of free radio (or pirate / hobby) stations around at the weekend & yes there are still numbers stations around.
Google will help with the numbers stations. They became much more active again with Russia being aggressive in the Ukraine.

Is anybody listening to 9590 kHz now? I'm not sure if it's coming from Egypt but it has a strange sound like the modulation is wrong.

a bing search showed that the frequency is used by Voice of America for a French language transmission between 1900- 2100 from a Pinheira transmitter

Ah, so perhaps that's a possibility, thanks. Whatever the location the station definitely sounded muffled and strange.
