"U1" might not be the correct TAD number. :biggrin:

Rapunzel - I had heard the term before, but understood it to relate to jamming - is this incorrect.

TAD = Tactical air designator

A tactical air designator is a series of alphanumeric characters which can be used to identify frequencies and nets. These designators are usually listed in the Air Tasking Order (ATO) to prevent inadvertent disclosure of classified information.

Since when was the north east of the UK, the north east of England? Has Aberdeen to John O'Groats disappeared and nobody told us in Scotland?

Andrew - you have to remember that to everyone in the UK, the UK means England - the north is therefore the Lake District to Yorkshire. Apparently things do happen North of this, but nothing of significance. GB means everyone - including the NI inhabitants - the NI community hate the idea that us English haven't a clue that NI isn't in GB, and the Scots understandably get cross when we don't remember all the land above Yorkshire. Apparently there's some others to the West, but I don't think any of us bother about them.

Joking aside - it IS very odd that when somebody says the North East - I genuinely do assume they mean Yorkshire, and not the East of Scotland. It is a bit odd. I don't think offence is intended, but Scotland is a long way away - so Yorkshire is full of Northerners, then you go further north into Scotland. It is indeed very odd.

Staffs Paul - cheers and thanks for the info.

Scotland borders with the north east of England, it's not far away, it touches it. Where I live in Ayrshire, Birmingham is closer than Kirkwall in Orkney. I recently got lectured by someone who didn't know where they lived.

All the shop watches are in England according to this site, even the others across the UK, not in England.
