OH HELL! - UNIDEN BEARCAT BCT15X

Postby DNHULL » Wed Feb 19, 2014 7:35 pm

My UNIDEN BEARCAT BCT15X RADIO SCANNER has just arrived and what a shock. It didn't mention that it was a parallel connection. Of course I haven't got that type of connection on my computer. I've emailed the seller to see if there is any way around this but he hasn't replied. Has anybody got any suggestions? Also looking at it it seems the power supply fits into the front of the scanner. Who thought that one up? Surely it would be easier to have it at the back.
Help!

What about a cable designed to do the job??

The integrated chip sets used in the above cables are manufactured by Silicon labs & have been chosen in favour over the Prolific PL2303HXA chip set found in most Usb to Serial adaptors which have been found to cause Code 10 driver errors on Windows systems due to limited driver support by Prolific themselves.

Total cost with postage just under £17..

Nice one. Thanks for that. You see it too obvious for me. To be honest I was looking on Amazon for that kind of cable but wasn't sure if it was fit for purpose.
Thanks

Or an adapter to usb but they can be fussy.

Guys as it turned out I had a cable already that I bought a few weeks ago and forgot about. Well, plugged it in and all is well. Scanner working but of course as you know I'm pretty new to all this and all I'm getting is Alabama showing up on the screen. I've got BCTOOL So I'm just going to try that and see if I can empty all the banks and start from scratch. Wish me luck!
Cheers guys

Once you get rid of the pre programed memories and disable the US default searches it's a very good scanner and easy to use. I've never used the software with it and program everything from the front keypad. It was frustrating when I first got it but once I got rid of the US stuff and set up my own groups and channels I was really happy with it's performance and still am.
