Realistic Pro-43

Postby wheelybins » Mon Apr 21, 2014 8:34 pm

Hi guys, I have just bought Realistic pro-43 and it is working brilliantly. However I can't figure out how to manually type in a frequency that I want to listen to. I can make it scan and do limit searches etc, but not go to a single frequency. I have the manual, but it doesn't seem to refer to what I am trying to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Excellent radio...I have two old Realistics myself & very little comes close to them on simplicity & sensitivity for the money..
The manual can be found at....http://www.repeater-builder.com/radio-shack/pro-43/pro-43-owners-manual.pdf

Programming is dead easy, but don't expect every frequency to be exactly what you program as the steps the radio accepts are slightly different to the UK's. And not being exactly on the frequency required is not the end of the world, so don't worry.

First step is to reset the scanner this is on page 13 of the above manual...
To do this turn the scanner off, hold down both the Zero & the Clear buttons as you turn the radio on...
To program channels is, first make sure the key pad lock is set to off & then..

Press manual.
Enter required frequency, making sure the
Press enter.
If error appears, just press clear & repeat. If error appears again, check the scanner will scan that frequency.
After entering the frequency, you can then set for AM or FM...
If you want the scannert to pause on that entered frequency for a second or two at the end of a transmission, press pause.
Band scans are also childs play..This is called a limit search.

Press program.
press limit.
LO appears.
Enter lower frequency
Press limit
Hi appears
Enter higher frequency.
press enter.
To store found frequency press MON button, or press up or down arrow to scan past it. To stop scanner on active frequency, just turn squelch off.
press the up or down arrow & turn squelch to stop noise, scanner is now scanning between upper & lower frequency.

Thanks for that, but I still can't make it go to a single frequency. I wanted to listen to an ATIS frequency yesterday without programming it into a scan bank or mon channel.

I can't beleive that this radio can't do that.

Cheers.

If you want to go to a single frequency, set the scanner to manual (Man) rather than Scan & then press the up & down (arrow) buttons until you find the programmed channel you want. Like this the squelch can be closed, to cut the background static out & the scanner will not scan, but stay on a single frequency.
I think hitting MAN when you hit activity during a limit search also stops the scan.
The other way is to open the squelch, fully anti clockwise & again the scanner will not scan but stay on a single channel. But the scanner does need to be told what the frequency is, either via a limit search or via a programmed channel for it to find that activity.
