2m repeater tones

Postby scotia909 » Sun Mar 15, 2015 9:08 pm

Hi

Is there a way to notch out the tones that 2m repeaters send...I just would like a quiet listen
to the output, without the tones, same for pub watch/shop watch.
Is there a notch filter I could homebrew ?

Thanks.

You should not be hearing the tones, unless they are opened by a 1750khz tone & that would certainly not be the case on your local shopwatch.
CTCSS & DCS should both be sub audible. That is not heard. Although some transceivers do have a slight buzz on CTCSS. Yaesu VX-7r's are known for this, but it is not a common thing to hear the tones.

Thanks for the reply...I used the wrong word, tones. I mean when the 2m repeater sends out morse letter
K for send. Also when the repeater sends out a string of morse to ID the repeater.
Shop watch/pub watch, at the start of a transmission there is a bleep, to alert staff ..not
the sub audible tones.

No, you will not stop hearing that sort of thing.

No reason why you can't build a really sharp and deep filter, and tune it to the annoying frequency, and insert it between the radio and an external speaker. I've never seen on off the shelf, but as the morse ident is such a narrow tone, notching it out is quite simple.

This is no use for fitting between the receiver and the speaker, but is designed for line level circuits - but they exist. Building one could be a nice project.
