Realistic Pro-2006 - Backlight renew

Postby Throbber » Sat Jun 18, 2016 1:58 pm

Hey guys,

Just got myself a Pro2006 and looking to do a bit of modding ie improving the backlight.
Like most Realistics of this age (20 Years) the backlight has just about gone, so want to put in a LED or similar.

Any sites offering help on this mod out there ??.

Thanks

Throbber

You can buy the correct stuff, cut it to size & repair it that way.
Also from time to time, someone on ebay buys the correct stuff, cuts it to size & sells it complete with duplicated sheet telling you how to do the job.
And yes lots of sites out there about doing the job. I looked a lot of bits up for someone last year & found lots of interesting bits & pieces.
Also just a thought. But how about using a small weak bulb instead of LED's? The light with not be as bright & taking the top off to occasionally replace a bulb is no major headache.

Hi all,
So backlight repair completed !!, used the one from the above post, cost me a fiver so well chuffed.
Actual job wasn't too difficult other than having suffered a stroke 5 years ago my left arm doesn't work so bought one of those holding things with a magnifying glass to do some of the soldering.
Screws are small so used a magnetic attachment to hold them and Bob was my uncle, got the job done in around an hour.
Result:- backlight working !!, went for the ice blue color.

Now to get my antenna on the gable end, local aerial company coming tomorrow to fit it, only charging me £40 so hoping to be up and scanning in the evening.

BTW, used this site for the instructions on how to renew the EL.
