Hi all I was wondering if any one on here has spent getting on £500 for a Whistler TRX-2... ( I hope I have spelt the name correct )The reason I ask if you have bought one is what are they like as I'm thinking of buying one, The more info I get on how they decode in the real world so to speak, It will help me make my mind up,The cheapest I have seen them is £475.I know its expensive but so was my old scanners when I bought them £30 years ago.

I have a TRX-2, it works well for me.You need to ask yourself, if you are likely to understand how to program it, from the front panel is hard work, you dod need to program it with a PC/laptop.The built in US databases are of no use in UK or Europe.You will need to start from scratch.
It will be a steep learning curve.There is no digital scanner that is easy to program.

Whistler talk about objects, which are really the same as channels, it just takes time to get your head round it.
Really if you are unsure don't by one.
I'm 69 now & have mastered mine.

Thanks for the info, You have 4 years over me lol, I am still tempted to just buy one,Now I am retired between my Ham gear and one of those Scanners ! I think I have plenty of time to try and get to grips with one. The only thing now is getting a decent price on one.

My work involves lots of clever kit and I've found that nowadays people fall into two categories. Not the old technical or un-technical split, but a much simpler one. Do they have patience, or not? So many people have got used to instant results, and that is the killer. All these new digital products are amazingly complex and can do clever things, but that means programming them is never simple - and I bet lots of these radios will be on the second hand market, very quickly. Especially from people who don;t join forums like this, and just buy one on Amazon, complete with US programming. Perhaps in a month or two, there will be virtually new ones being offered for considerable discounts.

Dangerous territory at the moment. I'd bet discounts are tricky to get at the moment as they're just too new and in demand. Waiting might pay dividends, but when I want something, I just tend to go for it.

Very true G4RMT I have already seen a used Whistler TRX-2 for sale on a well known UK dealers website.I Do not wish to knock anyone,but sometimes wonder if some people think DMR Capable scanners are simply "digital" so can decode Tetra and DMR encryption etc? Now the Uniden 3600 has become available, which includes the programming cable as standard and seems to have a better spec than the Whistler TRX-2 at only around £6.00 more perhaps the Whistler TRX-2 will drop in price of be discontinued in the UK? unless of course the Whistler TRX-2 has better perfomance than the Uniden 3600?

I wish to see both in action before I decide which to buy.

The UBCD3600XLT is comparable with the Whistler WS1088 rather than the TRX-1 (does not do NXDN).
In my opinion the Whistler range is easier to program and is more sensitive on DMR.
The Uniden looks and feels nicer and has a better display.
In the UK the Whistler is (at the moment) better supported.

What is best for DMR mototrbo and MARC? The UBCD3600XLT, The AOR DV-1 or The Whistler TRX-2? I know the The AOR DV-1 costs more but is it worth it?

Overall the Whistler TRX-1, TRX-2, WS1088 and WS1098 are the best for DMR/Mototrbo..
Depends what you want to use the AR-DV1 for, to me it is value for money - just..
