I was thinking base scanner as I thought that would be better but are the handhelds as good and do they sound as good? I assume the handhelds are cheaper but can they handle outside antennas as well and is the audio as good? And thanks for your help Mike I appreciate it.

I have only had the Whistler handies, external antenna is no problem, the mobile would have a larger speaker and possibly more audio..

Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd add that I have had my TRX-1 for a couple of months now and think it works really well for DMR.
Yes it is different in set up to my other radios such as Uniden 3500, Yupiteru and Icom radios but once you get used to the structure of the menus then all is good.

Whilst sitting in West London waiting for someone at a hospital appointment I done a limit search between 440mhz and 465mhz - found lots of users on DMR and the Whistler TRX-1 performed great.....showing colour code, slot etc - the only thing you need to be aware of when listening to DMR is the audio of the spoken voice has a lot more bass to it , quite deep and booming if like me you have it running through the car stereo !!!!

Will the Uniden 3600 be any different ? I look forward to seeing the reviews on here as there are some great people on here who always provide great insights and honest opinions of various radios (Metradio I mean you !!!!!)

If anyone is around North Herts area and wants to see my TRX-1 in use before spending £400+ on a new radio , i'd be happy to show them how my radio performs (i'm about 15 mins from Luton Airport if that helps -pm me direct)

Thanks
Kev

Sorry to sound like a complete novice, but what kind of things are broadcast digitally? I know that it's likely that everything will move from analog eventually, but is there a reason to go digital now?

Everything from security in shopping centres to bus drivers...
You will know when a favorite company you listen to can no longer be heard or has become a buzz...

Just looking at the digital scanners on the market and they are so expensive...Any chance prices will drop soon?? Or is it worth just keeping an eye out for a bargain. I see US ones going cheaper, I just don't have 250-450 to spend on a scanner sadly....If money were no object I might get the AOR AR-DV1 but hey we can all dream!!! :walkietalkie: :walkietalkie:
