If you are going to counterfeit - do it properly!

Got an offer on some radios from a Chinese supplier. They really don't think things through.

They've copied a very dated repeater, and not quite got the hang of it. Not a competition - far too obvious.

You have not been to Great Yarmouth lately have you?
If that Kenwod was at the Britannia Theatre, it would be charging almost as much as the real thing & be listed as a "tribute radio."

Ha! My tribute band are actually doing a show there in the summer! You are closer than you think - if you want a laugh (I get told off for going off topic here) - but Look at our website. http:/www.ukbeachboys.com and then look at http://www.alivenetwork.com/bandpage.asp?bandname=(Beach%20Boys)%20Beach%20Boys%20Gold

An agent has taken our photos, our set list and given us a different name - so yes - bands are counterfeit too!

It's supposed to look like this.

Why on earth would they copy a 25 year old repeater!

Ever heard of Royal Enfield India?
Royal Enfield was founded in 1909 to make bicycles & motorcycles but like the rest of the British motor cycle industry it went out of business decades ago.
But don't worry you can still buy a Royal Enfield if you want one. But it will be a Royal Enfield India.
You can also buy a lot of re-engineered classic cars. Things like an Frontline MG (MGB), or an Eagle E Type (Jag copy) or how about a Jensen Automotive International Interceptor?
If anyone does a copy of the FT-7 I am up for that. They were (are) great little mobile radios.

That is laughable lol. Kenwod :laughs:

The Land Rover copies that are produced in China really shocked me as shown in the pic above

We all know how most of our cheap radios we enjoy from ebay from china are clones of yaesu, mortorola etc but I could not believe how large scale their thieving cloning had got until I saw a documentary on tv the other day how they have cloned and sell on a large scale land rover fakes!

A lot of the Far East copies are due to the fact that the copied item is being made in whole or part in the far east to cut costs & maximise profits. So the Far East manufacturers do not need to copy, they just use the original plans.

Not thought about that from the old model perspective - so when a product run ends, the tooling isn't scrapped, just sold to somebody else who then run it again. Quite neat really, and perhaps with the tacit approval of the original manufacturer - after all, it wouldn't spoil their brand.

Is this what happens in Malaysia where older Motorola products are still being sold? Not counterfeits - but unapproved 'overruns'?
