Jammed? Locked into? Some basic research into spectrum usage and channel sizes will go a long way to helping you (and 'your mate') understand what you are hearing and what frequency it is actually centred on.

It will be 153.325 MHz - a Vodafone paging allocation

Is your mate licensed for 153.330 :?:
If not are you saying that he is licensed for a different frequency & that he received interference from someone using 153.330 :?:

If you are saying he is licensed else where & it was interference. Then to help us answer what radios & antennas is he using & on what frequency is he licensed :?:

Edited to add, if your mate was just scanning, then lock it out & do not scan that chunk of spectrum. If it is overloading his scanner, then is a preamp in use, or a large antenna on a small handheld, or is it a radio like an Icom which are renowned for front end overload :?:

I dont think it would have locked onto to your radio. more like your radio locked onto it

153 mhz is a notoriously loud band mainly due to the pager systems around there. more than likely you are near a paging mast

Concur absolutely - the 153MHz site near me leaks into everything - looking at the display on the analyser the entire band is crowded with really potent signals that mix badly

Hi,

I will now clarify what happened. My friend has a a scanner which he did not understand and had it on close call. The frequency 153.33 kept on coming up.

I have now put Close Call on my different make scanner and had the same thing happen, ie it would lock onto it. It came up on my scanner about 1 1/4 miles from his home so it must be something in that area.

From posts I assume it is a pager of some sort perhaps from the local nursing home.

Could I be right as there is no audio transmission just a sound like interference or if squelch is not adjusted correctly.

It's really easy to block spot frequencies on CC. So simply press the right button when it pops up next time.
