GAS PLATFORM EMERGENCY ALARM EXERCISE

Postby G4RMT » Wed Oct 11, 2017 12:13 pm

A as alarm went off on one of the platforms this morning. A gas alarm? Everyone went to their muster stations, but along the way, they lost one person. Lots of confusion, and then suddenly a new, weaker voice came up saying 'end of exercise'. Lots of talk about activities on the platform, and contact with Bacton. Sounded quite real, but very strong - the giveaway was the fact they were using PMR446 channel 1 67Hz CTCSS. I'm guessing but maybe the local college, or one of the local training centres near me in Lowestoft.

Lowestoft College is a leading UK maritime college with an impressive portfolio of facilities and courses to meet the needs of the global shipping industry. Ships captains, officers and crew come to Lowestoft College for specialist training to ensure their skills and knowledge are maintained to the highest level. The department has been established for many years and the extensive facilities mean Lowestoft College has become something of a one stop shop for training requirements.

quick extra comment - 446.00625 They're at it all day. This time a helicopter has crashed. Seems to be different controllers under training. Confusion, errors and misunderstandings - the training aspect is pretty well run - whoever they are. Got a bit confusing when the school dinner ladies were on the same channel, with different CTCSS - both sides very confused with messages blotted out both ways.

A USAF F15 or similar was circling over the area of the gas platforms earlier too.
