Questions Motorola DP1400 which scanner

Postby playtent » Sat Nov 11, 2017 11:01 am

Hi guys,

Gareth here. Long time lurker just joined.

A large local warehouse where my brother works use the Motorola DP1400 radios for communications on site between cranes and ground.
Looking for my first reasonable prices scanner, having read into the DP1400 I can see they can be set as UHF or VHF and programmed.

Not having anywhere else near me that I suspect would use radio comms, what scanner would be the most cost effective and capable of picking up these radios?

I'm figuring on starting small and then looking at upgrading and aerial options.

Thanks Gareth

The DP1400 can use DMR (Digital Mobile Radio) in both UHF or VHF and most likely they will be using it in DMR mode so scanner wise you would be looking at the most common ones being the Unniden UBCD3600 http://www.radiotronics.co.uk/uniden-ubcd3600xlt?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9P6v8LW21wIVE54bCh13wwa1EAQYASABEgJq_fD_BwE or the Whistler (mobile or Handheld) http://www.nevadaradio.co.uk/radio-scanners/scanners/whistler-ws1098-ez-scan-. They could however not be using it in DMR mode, in that case any cheap scanner could pick it up. Another thing to take into thought is they could be using Encryption and if they are you would near hear clear speech.
