The Whistler Group, Inc., a leading industry supplier of laser/radar detectors, has purchased the intellectual property of scanner industry leader, GRE America, Inc., and plans to launch a complete line of scanners under the Whistler brand. The assortment will include the first and only scanner that works on newer modulation protocols including P25-Phase II.

Models feature an Object Oriented User Interface, context sensitive help menus and three soft keys for easy programming, Digital AGC and superfast DSP for clearest possible audio on digital signals, user upgradable CPU and DSP firmware and an alert LED which can be programmed to light when any object goes active.

“This is an exciting opportunity to produce a quality product that keeps up with changing industry technology. We look forward to making positive contributions to this industry,” states Jesse Hopkins, President/CEO of Whistler.
Whistler brand scanners will be available for retail and distribution in the first quarter of 2014.

Interesting, lets hope it will be of some use for UK digital modes. I thought GRE were owned by Radioshack/Realistic a Tandy corp?

It looks like Whistler have simply brought the right to either make some GRE models or sell them under their name..

Tandy was The UK agent for Radioshack. Realistic is by Radioshack, although GRE I think were seperate from RS though they did work or were contracted for them.

GRE as an entity officially quit the scanner business in October last year, see viewtopic.php?f=21&t=177

Good to see them brought back to life and looking forward to seeing a new scanner brand on the block :smiles:

Tandy used various manufacturers for their own brand (Realistic) scanners, primarily GRE and Uniden. Generally speaking, the GRE manufactured models were favoured by buyers

Some of the Radio shack / Realistic scanners were made by Uniden...As were the Realistic & at least some of the Cobra CB's.

This is something good to look forward to after christmas. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with, especially as they want to be cutting edge and are looking at digital modes.

Whistler has been a leader in automotive laser/radar detection systems for over 40 years. Throughout the years Whistler has innovated and patented important product advances, resulting in first-to-market accomplishments and top performance rankings. Whistler also offers a complete line of Power Inverters and Diagnostic Inspection Cameras.

There main product at the moment is Laser-Radar Detectors and High Performance Laser-Radar Detectors so they look interesting.

Would any of these digital modes be the ones in use in England?

The video above shows the latest scanners gre were working on before they closed. Now that whistler have taken over I guess they have all these model designs and more. We should all email them and ask them to add dmr and dpmr.

The have released the specs now and they do look nice but thats the only positive in my point of view  i always liked radioshack/realistic and even gre scanners so i was hoping for something that caters for the uk and europe but instead they have copied uniden and gone into all the US pre set settings and adding your zip code etc. etc. all stuff useless outside the good ole us of a. it is a digital and analogue scanner but just like uniden it is good only for the us with its apco and dmr is not supported.

Big shame! i have the aor DV-1 which is alright but pretty crap to be honest for the price tag its like a rtl dongle in a box. sensitivity, interference and receive quality is on par with a cheap dongle. I was hoping for better and for another entry into the DMR market. I guess aor will be undeservedly selling many many more of their sub standard dv-1 as no one else is competing.
