Simoco to supply DMR to Mountain Rescue.

Postby m0lsx » Wed Oct 18, 2017 4:18 pm

RadioResource reports Simoco Wireless Solutions have been selected to supply Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier 2 equipment across England and Wales’ mountain rescue service.

Mountain Rescue England and Wales (MREW) comprises 48 teams of volunteers, operating across diverse geographies to help people who have encountered difficulties in the outdoors, particularly walkers and climbers but also assisting partner emergency services in a wide range of operations. Clear and reliable radio communications are a must to enable these teams to carry out their missions efficiently and safely — and most teams use outdated analog radio networks to achieve this.

The system includes more than 1,000 digital radio devices across MREW teams. DMR Tier 2 is the U.S. search and rescue agreed standard for land search and rescue communications to ensure interoperability. Base stations support instant push-to-talk (PTT) voice communications and VoIP telephone connectivity as well as open-standards applications.

So SAR is to go completely DMR?

Will this be on a new bandplan and does anyone know if they are keeping or loosing the historic original SAR channels listed here?

If there following the same procedure's as sarcomm then it look's like there comm's are going to be encrypted aswell so i doubt we will be hearing much like which was possible before !

Encrypted dmr for sar is overkill !

and doesnt dmr + encryption = less range plus other problems where life and reliable coms is the no.1 priority for SAR over secure coms ?

Yep that's what sarcomm are using down here alfie and there using enhanced encryption aswell so they might all be going that way now it looks like , especially when there mentioning personal details over the air etc .

so I think we can expect seeing more overkill in the near future maybe ?

Jumping on the digital bandwagon has clearly taken precedence over saving people's lives.
I reserve the right to ignore people who have made no attempt to the read the manual, and expect others to do it for them.

More probably very poor advice from sales people who do not know what they are talking about.
