Baofeng bf f8hp 8 watt tri power?

Postby Southwales » Fri Jan 19, 2018 1:14 pm

Hi, I have recently purchased a baofeng F8hp 8 watt radio, I am not convinced it is a be urine f8hp but a uv5r in a f8hp case as I am sure the radio should have 3 TX power settings, low, mid and high, mine only has low and high, also if I try to set mid via chirp once uploaded to the radio it reverts back to low, can anyone confirm I should have a mid power setting or just high and low? The radio was even supplied with the same manual as the uv5r showing only 1 watt and 4 watt but clearly states on the sellers site 8 watt.

Note it was only £21 When I purchased it https://www.gearbest.com/walkie-talkies/pp_863838.html

the BF8HP is simply a next generation UV-5R. The extra 3 watts are meaningless & add nothing to anyone's received signal, as to gain a single S point over a 5R's 5 watts you would need to up the power to 20 watts. So the extra 3 watts gives well under half an S point over a 5R.
The F8 has 5 watts & two power settings, for 5 & 1 watt.
The F8HP should have, as you say 3 power settings.
So maybe what you have is a simple BF8 & not the HP model.

The manual says that the 3 power settings need to be set in the VFO mode.
