I have just seen that Jaycee Electronics Ltd to close.
Jaycee first opened in 1989. It's facebook page carries the following..

JAYCEE ANNOUNCEMENT

After nearly 40 years in business the family have decided that the time has come to close the doors and cease trading.

We would like to thank all customers and suppliers who have supported us throughout the years and wish everybody every success in the future.

I do not know exactly how independent Jaycee was, but it had a close association with Waters & Stanton, who recently seem to have sold out to Nevada.

Disappointing, but perhaps not a surprise. Small, specialist shops are under huge pressure right now, from high-volume on-line retailers like Amazon on the one hand, and rapacious landlords and local authorities on the other.

The solution is -- in principle -- simple: don't buy anything from Amazon et al., if it is available in a shop. If we want to live in a country where there are local, independent shops, staffed by enthusiastic and knowledgeable people, we have to make that happen by buying from them whilst they still exist. When they're gone, it will be too late to complain.

Of course, that's easier said than done.

I'm actually gutted to hear this, My father who was a Ham radio operator used to take me as a small child over to Jaycee Electronics.
Looking over the radios and bits and pieces shelved up was just the best thing. I was at Jaycee only last week picking up an antenna, Had a quick chat with Scott and headed home.

The shop holds many memories for me as Dad took me there as a child and helped me get into the hobby.

Dad now being a Silent Key It did feel unusual visiting the shop without him.
Online retail has clearly taken its role in the closure.

Gutted.
