KEY KM3000 Radio conversion

Postby sandman1976 » Thu Mar 30, 2017 11:37 pm

Hey all,

I have recently acquired a few KEY KM3000 Radios.
All working and all like new at a very reasonable price.

Looked here: http://www.superiorsignals.co.uk/keyradio.htm and it appears you can convert these units.
Just wondering if anyone here can do this?
Or can point me in the right direction?

Thanks :)

From the little I know about radio systems, their radios are expensive, clever, and totally ground up products. The kinds of product that could be modified to meet specific requirements. Businesses that need advanced tracking, security and clever stuff that the usual mass produced products just can't be modified for. I'd guess that they have the ability to be shifted to other frequencies, considering the wild and really interesting things the latest 4000 series can do I. Suspect reprogramming will be back to factory. Some of the features I wish I'd known about a couple of years ago for a project I did! I'd give them a call and ask.

The last I heard about the company, they went bust in 2011 and any stock got sold off for pennies..

That link was quite interesting, these radios have quite a good range.
I could do with figuring out how to factory reset one and see where that takes it, im presuming a reset will put it back to standard open band?
Or will they need specifically programming?

When they went bust they were called 'KEY RADIO SYSTEMS LIMITED'

Not really - Key Radio Solutions, changed their name to Key Radio Systems Ltd. and Key Radio Ltd exists too. They did not 'go bust'. They are all dormant companies - technically Active, and have dormant accounts filed, which basically lists the directors - all the same people in each company. They have £100 in the accounts which get filed with no change each year. Quite normal business practice to retain a name. Retains the Key brand, without any hassle. The directors don;t have any adverse history, and I cannot see anything in all the accounts I've viewed to suggest otherwise?

So are these units worth anything?
I got them for £40 including 24to12v power adapters and various RS232 leads.
