My SDR screen is awash with huge signals on 153-155MHz that don't even need the antenna connecting. These things bet together and produce these nasty spikes that seem to cross into the marine band - but they're not really there. A marine band radio on these channels with squelch open hears nothing at all - the SDR hears a nasty digital mush. Just a by product of a wide open sensitive wide band receiver.

You could try a Yagi antenna cut for 154 Mhz and see if the noise is directional. Then drive to somewhere else and direction find it on a map.

It may only be smush but it will be smush from one location.

I was parked in a Scout Hut car park and tried listening to AM for a bit, but all I could get was a loud buzz on most stations. I put it down to a 3 phase 400KV power line that pops up from an underground cable near there, and sure enough driving past it I get a peak. Most likely your is the hospital - maybe even their Xray department :shocker:
