GB3KY 145.712

Postby ACL » Sun Dec 31, 2017 10:47 pm

I've noticed it's rarely used these days compared to a year ago. I've also noticed it never seems to ID like my other local repeaters. Does anybody know why it doesn't ID like GB3NB, EA and PO??

If you look at the current Amateur Radio Licence Terms & Conditions.

https://www.ofcom.org.uk/__data/assets/pdf_file/0027/62991/amateur-terms.pdf

Section 13. (Page 7.) You will see that there is no legal requirement now to transmit a call sign other than when transmissions are taking place & even then only as...
frequently as is practicable during transmissions, unless
the specific requirements of Note (g) to the Notes to Schedule 1 of this Licence apply;

And note G only applies to the 5MHz band.

So presumably KY is simply doing what is now required, whilst the others are doing what use to be required & ID'ing every 15 minutes.

Quite daft of them really, as the IDs are very useful as beacons - you hear them and can tell where they are. A repeater without an ID seems a waste of an opportunity. I've got an ID on my commercial repeater, set to very 15 mins and has 'Lowestoft' and the official callsign in CW

Thanks for the info.

What frequency is your repeater on?
