question about the Uniden Bearcat BC355C

Postby jrichard50 » Sat Jan 25, 2014 7:41 pm

Hi everyone
I have had a couple of scanners over the years and I am just about ready for a new one.
I am interested in the Uniden Bearcat BC355C for picking up airband, marine and pmr. My question to anyone who owns one is will this pick up the 27/81 cb channels? I have heard different views. Some say it only picks up am cb and that the fm is in fact the 10 metre ham band others say the am and fm is the cept european cb channels. Also the spacing for 27/81 cb is, I believe, different to the european channels so if you can scan them and can't change the scanning steps will it miss the uk channels. Hope this makes sense? Thanks.

It covers 25 to 54 mhz so it should pick up CB, but the channels could be a little off..CB despite being called 11 meters, does in fact have a 10 meter wavelength....

The manual can be viewed at..http://www.uniden.com/content/ebiz/unid ... 355Com.pdf

Page 12 answers your question about mode.....
25 mhz to 27.9950 AM, steps @ 5khz...
28 to 29.7 mhz FM also at 5khz steps..

So you may be off by a couple of Khz at most, but well within the audio bandwidth for CB, but it will be AM not FM, but it will still be readable..

It will pick up all the CB channels fine :smiles:

The full 80 CB Channels 27/81 (40 UKCB and 40 CEPT Euro) frequency list can be found here...
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4

The steps are slightly on off on your scanner but due the bandwidth that is fine. Just input the closest frequency so...

27.60125 in 5khz steps is 27.6000
27.61125 in 5khz steps is 27.6100

etc.
