Using a digital recorder with a 125XLT

Postby Nighthawk999 » Sat Apr 16, 2016 6:36 pm

When listening to the tx at an airshow on my 125,would it be feasible to record everything received onto a small digital recorder?
I realise that a twin socket adaptor and a lead is needed so I can use the recorder and my earphones at the same time, both easily available cheaply online.
As ever I would welcome any advice. Thanks in advance.

No reason at all that why you can't do this technically (leaving any? legality points aside).

Alternatively if you get a small Window's tablet you could control the scanner and record (with squelch control) using the Scan125 Control Program. This may not be a discrete approach but it is an option.

Thanks Nick but for various practical reasons I'll need to stick with just the earphones/recorder route.

I think the only question I'd have would be around the volume level.

If you split the audio to the headphones and the recorder, then one or the other may have too high, or too low, a volume level.

What's comfortable for your ear might be too loud for the recorder, or too quiet?

Cheap suggestion if this becomes an issue, head to eBay and buy two in-line volume controls, the set the audio loud on the scanner and adjust your headphones and the recorder volumes separately

Update;I have now got a small digital recorder, two inline volume leads(as suggested)and a twin socket adapter for earphone and recording leads.
Big try out will be at the end of this month at the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival.
