Long wire on AOR 3000A

Postby Silage » Thu Aug 24, 2017 8:46 am

Hi again
I see the 3000A has a BNC connector on the rear, i'm going to use a long wire in my smallish garden i have, with a bit of turning and use of loft space it might do as a stop gap until we move or i get carried out in a box :)...............what is the best way to attach the wire to the BNC or is there another option?
Thanks for reading

For a decent option why not try a long telescopic. I often use one on one of my extra base scanners.
I have had one of these for years. My daughter brought it for me on Christmas, about 10 years ago & with a 90 degree BNC, it does the business.

For the wire into BNC. Why not just strip the end of the wire, fold the copper back & insert it into the centre of the BNC socket & then use a match or similar to just wedge it in place firmly.
If you already use a telesopic antenna on your AOR. Then I use around 10 meters of bell wire with a crocodile clip on the end. And I simply clip the wire to the semi extended antenna.
Most AOR's tend to overload very quickly & although they normally have an attenuator which helps relive the overload. Using an antenna that is too long & then attenuating it, is rather like driving a car at 30 mph, in a 30mph speed limit. With one foot on the accelerator so it could do 50mph, but then holding it back to 30 mph using the brake. What is the point?
I find around 10 meters of wire works well for me.
