I have just come across these & they appear to be a good option for us scanner enthusiasts.

You wind your window down a small way, clip it over the glass & wind the window up again.

£10.99 including postage on ebay.

Great idea i want one.

But do they compensate for the ground plane that your car works as when a magmount is attached ?

You can get them for as little as £10.10 on ebay from china and as usual for a uk seller they a little bit more. the cheapest uk one at the moment is £12.88

I doubt it will be as good as a magmount, from that point of view, but you get the advantage of being able to choose your own antenna & thus a gain from having a better antenna. Also magmounts do not give a great ground plane, although at VHF that is not a big issue.
