It's been quite a few years since I operated a CB radio, over 35, probably.
I recently bought a mobile and a handheld set, but haven't really used them much.
This weekend, we had a family gathering and I let my grandsons listen to the mobile, set up in the house, connected to a Thunderpole 5. We live between Dover and Ramsgate in Kent.
Within a few minutes, they heard a conversation on ch 19 FM , luckily, so did I, and the language was appalling. Every second word started with an F!
I'm very disappointed that people seem to think it's ok to use that sort of language on the air, perhaps that's the reason I haven't used a CB for 35 years!
I have no idea who they were, but they certainly weren't youngsters. I have heard them a few times since, always on ch19, and the bad language is still being used, so it wasn't a one off.
Is this what CB is like now?
I can pick up all the free banding channels on the mobile rig and the hand portable picks up AM and all the European channels, looks like I'll be giving FM a wide berth from now on!
