Baofeng BF-888s UHF handheld £9.99. That is a cheap 446 or 70cm handheld by anyone's standards.

My first handheld Yaesu had 3 channels, S20, 21 and S22, and a new pair of crystals was around £9. At the time, I got around £30 a week from my job, so you had to save up for new channels! It meant ordering them to be made - specific for the radio model, getting them in the post in a little box padded with cotton wool, opening the radio, sticking them in and then spending an hour with a trimming tool pulling them onto frequency - sometimes having to send them back because they wouldn't pull enough!
Pah, people don't realise they have it so good!
