If by that you mean the pre-programmed things on your scanner then they are of no real use to you in Wallyton - they are programmed for the American market. If the radio is typical of other unidens you won't be able to re-assign those specific searches but there may be custom search ranges you can set that will better suit the UK spectrum.
From Wallyton you should easily pick up Ringway and Speke as well as have a huge volume of airways traffic within range.
Locally there are numerous taxi and transport firms using analogue and digital repeaters (Billinge Hill and Winter Hill TX sites give good coverage across Wallyton and beyond).
If data is your thing then you also have the main Northern pager gateway tx site nearby.
No idea about CB usage but if anywhere has it then your area will given the close proximity of the major car parks at Eccles Interchange and Thelwall Viaduct

its the other things you mention here taxi,transport.
tried as chris p suggested programming in CB frequencies - nothing heard
so i take it normal settings out the box not ideal for uk then!
what are the normal band steps for the uk?
