456 MHz UK National Simplex Council use Frequencies

Postby SilverShadow » Thu Jan 03, 2013 2:34 pm

OK I've noticed these in use by my local council and other councils for special events and they are all simple licence (old short term hire)

456.0125 - B, H
456.3375 - H
456.3875 - B, S, N, H, SP, W
456.4625 - B, H, W
456.5625 - B, S, H, SP, W
456.6875 - H
456.8625 - B, S, H, SP, C, W, L
456.9875 - B, H, SP, W

Key...
B = Confirmed Used by Birmingham City Council
S = Confirmed Used by South Yorks Council
N = Confirmed Used by Norwich County Council
H = Confirmed Used by High Peak Council
SP = Confirmed Used by Stockport MBC Council
C = Confirmed Used by Caerphilly County Borough Council
W = Confirmed Used by Warrington Borough Council
L = Confirmed Used by Leeds County Council

I noticed in various places they were reported used by the Olympic flame staff last year but this has been an easy mistake made by radio monitors....

Apart from 157.000 and OB frequencies the olympic flame was mainly Airwave used mainly by the police on the bikes and the police joggers (with police ID armbands)

Lots of people were scanning the bands prior to the flame arriving and found these frequencies in use by councils preparing local events and mistakingly tied them up as olympic flame staff, this was further confirmed by hearing the same frequencies in use on bonfire night, recent council events and the new years eve celebrations.

Can anyone else confirm these frequencies used by their local council?

456.3875 Has been used by Norwich Lord Mayors Parade in previous years & is also used by Norwich City Castle Museum, which is County Council owned.

I have no record of the others being used in Norwich.

All in use by my local council 'High Peak Borough Council'. They have 8 channels as listed below and mainly use Kenwood TK model UHF radios.

HIGH PEAK COUNCIL SPECIAL EVENTS BUXTON DERBYSHIRE
456.0125 MHz
456.3375 MHz
456.3875 MHz
456.4625 MHz
456.5625 MHz
456.6875 MHz
456.8625 MHz
456.9875 MHz

These are always brought out for 'Special Events' but are not used for everyday use. for example, they are not used in the town hall or for council work and repair jobs but last year were used for The town carnival, Gilbert and Sullivan Festival, Firework displays on halloween and new year, a special event at the local university and as you mentioned, preparations for The olympic flame and local entertainment surrounding it.

Ive got the following in my memories listed as special events/sth

456.3875 456.4625 456.5625 456.8625 456.9875

I hear them all locally often and as has been said usually at special events though I never made the council connection before.

Looking back it makes sense these frequencies were used on the olympics flame day by the council and not the olympics teams.
