Aircraft about south wales

Im in aberdare, cant pick any aircraft up, if searched from 108.000 to 136.000 on 25k-50k am any help please, btw i got a icom icr20, do i need drivers? Any help would be appreciated as im new, my old man ws into it big time in the 90s.

a search on google or bing for Clee Hill transmitter frequencies produced these

124.750
128.750
128.700
129.205
131.130 ( 131.325)
132.150
133.600
133.900
( 133.9 is the swanwick military initial contact VHF frequency { ICF } for over flights from Strumble to Dikas waypoints so you may catch the USAF transit flights although they tend to use UHF .

The UHF airband ICFs for your area are
232.875
278.600
280.350
282.500
292.525




You have several high level airways that are above your location so you should be able to hear the aircraft. It is unlikely that you will hear the controller unless you have a good path between you and the transmitter site at clee hill

As airband transmissions are of short duration a search over the whole band will not produce many hits it is better to put some known frequencies into a memory bank and scan the bank for more reliable results

I'd try these for civil:
129.375
133.6
134.75
135.25 ("135.255")

You're a long way from any transmiters, the nearest being:
Clee Hill, Shropshire
Winstone, Gloucs
Davidstow Moor, Cornwall

The fact that Aberdare is in a valley may impair your range a fair bit!

When searching airband cut it into smaller chunks. It takes several seconds to scan each MHz. So by the time you have gone through all of airband, you will have potentially missed several conversations which will generally be over in under a minute.
So I scan air band in 2 to 4 mhz chunks & normally in chunks of less than 3 MHz.
Also do not scan below 118Mhz if you want air traffic. So 118 to 136.9750khz & at different times of the day.
