Kinloss

Postby simonfoy » Thu Jun 13, 2013 2:05 am

Hi all

Apologies for what may seem a basic question but I am new to scanning and have just had installed a royal discone antenna. I bought two scanners, the AOR 3000A and also a Uniden 396 scanner.

I have UHF and VHF frequencies to listen to but wanted to try my hand at HF listening. My question is, what is the frequency of Kinloss S&R?

I appreciate the help

Sincerely

Simon

A VHF/UHF Discone antenna is not going to be very good at all on Kinloss frequencies..A small random wire antenna is going to be MUCH more effective..For listening to HF I use about 5 meters of bell wire..That I have stripped to a single core, I then hang this around the room & clip it onto my telescopic antenna .
Kinloss ilike most military activity is on USB..Normally SSB activity is USB above 10MHZ & LSB below 10 MHz...Does the AOR use a BFO or does it have fine tune??? tuning in Khz steps will be too harsh to resolve SSB clearly.

I can tune quite finely on the AOR, the manual says The tuning rate can be as fine as 50 Hz for SSB/CW

I have access to the loft from where the AOR is at the moment because it isn't currently plugged in to the Royal Discone because the terminal for that is downstairs and being ill at present the AOR's upstairs in the bedroom so I could put some wire in the loft I suppose, I will look in to long wire HF antennas as I don't suppose they do a short one.

Thanks for the info through I really do appreciate it.
