Antenna wire

Postby mike43 » Wed Nov 20, 2019 4:43 pm

I forgot to put this into my last question. Can you join different diameter wire for an antenna. I need a bit more wire for my new project and have plenty but it is only slightly different in diameter but just as strong. Will that be OK. Also could you double up two wires together for added strength in a long run, or will that make a difference to SWL. Thanks....Mike.

adding a further length of different diameter cable to an HF longwire will not make any difference but the frequency of resonance will change due to the additional length.
make sure you have a good connection and make it watertight as rain will corrode the joint in time. Doubling up on the added section will not strengthen the antenna much as the additional weight will increase the load on the whole length
