Good memories for me as I spent a lot of time in the Forest of Dean working on the sculpture trail a couple of decades ago.
Which channels were you using on the analogue sets and were you using any sub channels /ctcss tones?
I presently live in Poland where it is just flat, too flat, no landmarks, I often get lost, but great for transmitting and we have had some great distances with PMR* and even better distances with dodgy boafengs, and now we are doing some testing with couterpoises (....I know, I know, I know, it's a myth.......

but!), I must make some videos too.
*PMR is becoming more popular here as 27mhz is so overcrowded.
Maybe next time you go back up North, Blackpool Tower to Pendle Hill....?
