Just looking for some advice.
Im totally new to radio scanners and im looking to buy a handheld scanner.
Recomendations please.
Im in Manchester and would like to pick up as far as possible with a handheld

First welcome to the forum.
Distance with a Scanner is based upon what is between you & what you want to listen to & height thus makes a big difference. As does the antenna used.
A handheld radio is not going to get you the distant stations without a high antenna attached. But a handheld will be good for taking out & about.
So it is all about compromises. A base radio limits you some ways, a handheld in others.
Probably the very best value radio currently out there is the Uniden UBC-125XLT which costs around £120. Then for slightly improved reception add around £20 for a slightly longer flexible antenna.
The 125 covers every frequency you could want & gives you lots of channels to program with active local frequencies. Plus it allows programming via a PC.
