Handheld scanner running 24 hours a day

Postby Southwales » Mon Apr 23, 2018 10:14 pm

Hi, I leave my uniden 125 scanner running for days at a time powered by the supplied usb adapter and connected to my home made 3d bicone, that way it allows me to maybe hear the likes of use passing over or other passing signals etc, how will this effect the life of a handheld scanner? Can modern handheld scanners run for thousands of hours? Although I guess there is not much point in me wanting this radio to last forever as soon there will be even less to listen to as more radios go digital so now is the time to get my use out of it.

Hi , I did this with an aor 8300mk3 it lasted about 10 months then the screen lost a lot of pixels , still works fine but missing a few pixels which I thought was abit of a let down for a £600 handheld at the time ,
I had mine on to create an online stream ,

Get a cheapie if you want to do it just in case

If you use Scan125 then you can also log and record all those passing signals as well :mrgreeny:

My Uniden 3500 spends most of it's life mains and computer wired, it hasn't lost anything. I've had it just over 4 years now.
200 miles in 2 days for my 3 children.
