As and when they will use it, will be another matter.

Where is this detailed please ?. I cant seem to find it on the bandplan.

A couple of weeks ago I was making codeplugs for fire radios. We have to keep to the national bandplan and aren't allowed to put privacy on the standard fireground channels.

And as metradio has said, different services are purchsing different radios. So would be incompatible with privacy on.

I call scaremongering.

which clearly states:

As well as ensuring that the correct digital standard is being used, several other parameters need to be correct to provide compatibility on a given channel (frequency), including colour code, time slot, talk-group identification and encryption, although regulations require that transmissions are in clear speech (i.e. not encrypted).

Last line - NOT encrypted.

Last week was the last time I handled a F&R radio. Not being rude, but I'm getting this info from the horses mouth. The horse being me !.

Encryption is not included in any of the ETSI DMR standards, it is an additional bolt on by different manufacturers with their own encryption standard !!
