Another Southgate ARC news find.

Ofcom now issuing short 2E0xx Intermediate callsigns

It seems Ofcom are now issuing short callsigns for those who've passed the RSGB Intermediate (2x2 call) or Advanced (1x2 call) exams.
This change provides a major incentive for radio amateurs to upgrade their licence

It was recently reported that Ofcom had made the M5xx (1x2) call block available to those passing Advanced. It has now been confirmed that Ofcom are also making the 2E0xx (2x2) call block available to those passing Intermediate.

Short callsigns are greatly prized by radio amateurs and it is thought this move could lead to many more people taking the Intermediate and Advanced exams.

News of the change for Advanced was broken by M5ET at the RSGB Convention in Milton Keynes last weekend. A post on GroupsIO reported that a short Intermediate callsign had been issued and Ofcom had confirmed that it was it was valid.
