Whistler TRX-2 - frequency range

I have a job coming up where I may be able to find the budget to buy one of these - but I not that the spec says excluding cellular - on the 800MHz band range as that's a no-no in the US, but I need 790 through to 865MHz - with no gaps. Anyone know if the UK versions have bits chopped out?

Thanks
Paul

Yes the bits are chopped out as it is the same radio as sold in the US
There is no UK version only different user selectable bandplan and step sizes..

Have just had a look at the spec for the Uniden 3600:
25 - 512MHz
806 - 960MHz
1240 - 1300MHz

Seems the coverage is as follows:
25-54, 108-136.99, 137-174, 216-512, 764-781.99, 791-798.99, 806-960 and 1240-1300 MHz.

So looks like just a small section missing. This will have to do, I guess.

Think there is coverage from 54 to 88MHz now...

Oh really?

One thing that will be interesting is to see if the radio comes with NXDN or if it doesn't - both suppliers I looked at were identical prices and both led me to believe that the radios have the UK spec, and possibly the Kenwood protocol. One says DMR enabled the other doesn't mention it, so it will be interesting to see how ready to use for a new user these radios are. I think what I'll do, as the project I have bought it for is a month away, is to treat it like a brand new user, who has just shelled out on an expensive bit of kit. I wonder if it will need lots of work, or just work out of the box. I read lots of complaints it will not do much straight out of the box - while other users, mainly in the US say it will - so I'll see!

The radio you receive is the same radio as the US one, the differences are all in the firmware - you just select your country (UK, USA, Canada, France and Australia) and the frequency ranges and step sizes are sorted.. The TRX2 comes with DMR and NXDN..
Programming can be a bitch at first.. The saving grace is you can enter frequencies from the keypad and auto search of any band or block of frequencies and the scanner will decode the mode found..

You will find that Moonraker are the UK agent for Whistler so are more knowledgeable about them - Ask for Chris...

It came nice and quick, but my PC running Windows 8 cannot talk to it - the downloaded driver it doesn't like, and while I can pop out the card and stick that in the computer, it's a little embarrassing using an XP computer to programme it!

The onboard programming, is already driving me mad - just very illogical, and the manual lays things out in very odd orders - so some things make little sense, but you get there in the end. What I really hate are those functions that you press and then you have to wait while it 'prepares'. Power up is quite long winded. Once I get to grips with it, I'll have a better understanding - what I do know is that there is little point a novice buying one of these - you need plenty of prior radio experience. The software is on the other hand, rather good, and some of the problems reviewers found on youtube I didn't know about and aren't an issue at all. Just annoying the USB programming is so finicky - SD card however works reliably. More comments soon.

For some reason the TRX-1 is not as problematic connecting to a PC..
