Baofeng DM-1701 & DM-1702

Postby clum19 » Thu Oct 03, 2019 7:28 pm

Hello,

I have seen some cheap (ish) DMR radios by Baofeng. The Baofeng DM-1701 and DM-1702. Are these DMR only for HAM users, or can they be used on the Simple UK Light Ofcom radio licence?

The output transmit power is less than 5W.

Thanks in advance,
Callum.

Hi Callum.

Some friends and I use the DM 1702 on the 446 licence free channels, analogue and digital. As far as I know, we are operating within the law.
Not sure if this answers your question,

Regards, Ant.

The DM-1701 is a 5W device so well outside the Ofcom legal limit for PMR446 which is 0.5W (500mW)

It is set to the 'low power' setting. I thought that was 0.5 watt. ?? (DM1702)

High power is 5w and low power is 1w so still above the legal limit for PMR446
