Most of the MFJ tuners have a balun within them, it is why many do not use them, that & their build quality.

Was the MFJ-957 a typo? as it is not a tuner.

Typo - MFJ-959C. And this does not have a transformer n:1 balun as such bus uses inductors and variable capacitors to impedance match.

Personally I've not had any quality issues with MFJ devices that I have (after internal examination of course).
