Anyone using the FT817 QRP radio ? I would be pleased to see any comments.

I brought my 817 second hand years ago. It's the very old non DSP version.
My only advice would be buy a small BNC dummy load for the front antenna connector, as mistakes happen & it is far too easy to transmit into the front antenna connector rather than the rear. And also take great care with antennas on the front antenna connector, as it is soldered directly to the circuit board & thus it is much too easy to damage the circuit board via it.
The one big punch or similar mod is well worth considering, as with 5 watts, the extra talk power makes a big difference.

Thanks Alan. I may well buy a better microphone. I have ordered the Collins 10 pole SSB filter which reduces bass and gives improved top for better transmit audio as well as improving rx selectivity.
