HF Bands

Postby wales100 » Sun Jun 26, 2016 4:07 pm

Is it me or have the HF bands been dead of DX as of late or am i just in a poor area for Ham Radio. There just hasn't been any DX about for what seems like ages now. Anyone else finding it the same?

Glad its not just me then. There are more contacts to be made M1SAM on HF than VHF its just its been quiet of late. Dont let it put you off the hobby, get a wire up and have a go. Plenty of digi modes going on if SSB is quiet.

Spoke to an old ham friend who like me came back to thew hobby recently after years away. He's discovered a huge upsurge in CW, and it's now the only mode he uses, and he suspects that people are turning to it because it packs more activity into a smaller area, making contacts easier to make. The digital modes also make the non-CW sectors appear very busy, with the buzz saw noises tending to hide weaker USB/LSB activity. He figured CW, no longer a requirement, would be dead and discovered that's very far from the truth.

The Digi part of the bands seem busy when there's no SSB activity especially on 20m, so at least there's something to participate in
