Aircraft on 156.450

Postby Paul338 » Tue May 08, 2018 11:23 am

Hi guys.
I was on Worthing pier with my scanner this morning and I could hear what I believe was London airport
and the aircraft on 156.450 which is CH 9 intership marine.
I have not heard this ever before on the shipping channels, could it down to weather conditions as it has
been very hot here ??
The only airports I can normally hear on the correct frequency's is Shorham which is just down the
road to me, and London.
Any thoughts here please.

Hi Paul, Just possible you heard the word Pilot if so then of course channel 9 is a common channel for sea navigation pilots. Hope this helps.

Sorry spaggy, not the one.
I have just checked my mobile scanner again at home and can still hear the control tower and aircraft, but not as clear
as I should. I checked my base scanner and nothing on there.
It may be the weather is doing something strange, I will check again when the weather has cooled down and back to what it should be
in a few days time.

IF breakthrough, would suspect your scanner has an IF frequency of 21.4MHz...
156.450MHz minus 21.4MHz = 135.050MHz
135.050 MHz AM, London ATC 19 Hurn East

Yes I think Mike has hit the nail on the head it looks like breakthrough.

I used to get it the other way around. Derbyshire Police on 155.650 used to break through on the airband for me at somewhere around 134MHz if I remember right.

Hi guys.
I think you are right about it being breakthrough, I have been talking to Shoreham airport about it
and they think the same thing, I think the hot weather we have had recently was part of it to because
now it has cooled down we can not hear it as much.

[b]My handheld scanner is a Grecom PSR-282 200 channel.

Because I am on the sea front a lot of the time, it does all I need.
