That is not a bad price & I like the record facility. Lets hope that unlike earlier Icom scanners this one has some filtering.

We do not know if there is, or is not, as all they say is
also decode digital modes including P25, NXDN, dPMR, D-STAR and Japanese domestic DCR.

So it MUST decode others too as it says "including."
But it is disappointing that Icom has not been clearer about the capability of the Scanner, as how can anyone know if it's what they want, when they are not telling us, what it does?
What I find really interesting is that the link to the R30's manual on the Icom page, does not take you to the manual, but to the page you are already on!!

I have sent a message to Icom UK, asking for details of all the digital modes covered & pointing out both the AOR & the Whistler cover DMR & that as DMR is so popular, then their scanner becomes a VERY poor choice if it does not have it. Which is a pity as it looks well specced other than that & at a good price.
I am not an Icom fan, but at £575, if it has good digital mode coverage, then it looks like a radio that could end up in my shack.

I have just realised that link on thier site & your link, were download links, not open & look at links. :embarrased: :embarrased:
And looking at the manual it looks like the including comment, is the full list

Seems to be a major omission on ICOM's part, or am I missing something?
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.

Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.

All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain...

Time to die.

i don't get it, if it was designed for ametuers then they use dmr. it does say that it contains a database of d-star but why leave dmr off

can't be designed for the American market as they too are now adopting dmr.

for what it is worth may as well go for the whistler or uniden or if money is no object then the aor radios.

I have just had a reply from Icom. Basically they side stepped answering what are the other digital modes on the R30 & also totally ignored my question about DMR.
All they have done is attached a copy of the user manual & in effect said look for yourself & not bothered to answer properly.
It feels like they are not at all interested in scanning customers or answering questions from us.

Is that Icom UK, or Icom Japan?
I suspect Icom UK just say whatever Icom Japan tell them to say, and Icom Japan, like AOR, seem to have an alien attitude to things.
It is after all another culture, and translation may be an issue.
How may technically aware people in the west speak/write fluent Japanese?
'DMR' versus 'dPMR' confuses most people here, so I would not be at all surprised if something has got lost in translation at some point in time...
