Replacement for GRE psr-295?

Postby radjock » Tue Dec 18, 2018 3:18 pm

Good day folks.
I fancy a new scanner/reciever. Can’t quite afford to go digital yet, so a nice one with some new cool features is appealing.
Don’t get me wrong, the 295 has been great but its old and has seen some action!
The Icom RC-6, UBC-3500XLT and the AOR ar mini look ideal but are they gonna be a decent improvement over my trusty but rusty 295!?
Have you had experience with these devices and know of their good/bad features?
Are there any other similar radios you can recommend?

Look forward to your responses..

the 3500 is now obsolete but if you nip over to martin lynch and sons website they have one secondhand but if you want it act fast.

i have never owned the 3500 but did buy the replacement the 3600 which is digital for just over £400.00 i found that it suffered from channel interference and also seemed to suffer from lack of sensitivity making it difficult to pull in stations i believe that they did an update to correct this.

i own the icom r20 which is good but not any of the others you mention this is now also obsolete although you can still buy them secondhand.

if you don't want second hand stuff then look at the uniden 125xlt which has free software from scan125 who comes on here.

i am also looking at a new radio had a major flop with the new aor dv10 talk about rubbish.

all the best in your hunt.

Thanks. Yes saw 3500 at ML&S, tempting. Little bit more digging i think. Problem is, i get paralysis through analysis ! so sometimes it’s easier to ask others. all the best

Personally I would go for the 125. I have a 3500 & have had it for years. I also have the 230.
But I look at the 125 & feel that for the money it is probably the buy of the decade. £120 for all those spec's is amazing.

Good shout M0LSX. The 72 was the first scanner I purchased (2nd hand) and thoroughly enjoyed using that. I sold it for the same price I bought it for 18 months later!
Ok, lets have a look at its spec then. Best regards
