One Joe Num

Postby Minus1 » Mon Oct 07, 2019 9:55 am

The automated announcement "One Joe Num" and his female companion are back this morning.
341.675 out of Clee Hill
Sounds slightly different to previous.
I'm not sure if it is a foreign language, or something completely contrived.
I reserve the right to ignore people who have made no attempt to the read the manual, and expect others to do it for them.

An automated announcement that pops up on various Swanwick Mil freqs now and again.
Quite what it is for I have to figure out.

Heard this again last week on a frequency that didn't even seemed to be used from a nearby site, but at which there were engineering works scheduled by NOTAM.
My supposition currently is that this is some kind of preset engineering test transmission that is just used test audio.
The words are not english or any other language, but just some meaningless ramble that if you know what they should be, show whether or not the transmission is working fine.
The message might as well be "Mary had a little lamb, it's fleece was white as snow", but "One Joe Num…" probably gives radio engineers a bit more credibility :laughs:
