If they were I would be buying quite a few in bulk

The problem is this is the starting price on bids and the buy it nows are a lot higher than the Baofeng BF-666s which is £12.77 all in buy it now

The 888s at the mo are starting at £5 plus £10 postage so thats £15 at the start of bidding and the ones I been watching have all had bids so you are looking at £16+ each on those right now.

I always total cost plus p+p and that for me is the price of the item and not what the buyer sets cos the price for me is what I have to pay

Some people actually see a radio at £29.99 with £5 postage a better deal than a radio at £32.99 with free postage when the £32.99 one is actually 2 quid cheaper :mrgreeny: I dont have a problem with sellers who have high postage fees as i tally in the overall cost. I have actually bought things from china for 99p but with a £18+ postage costs and got a good deal as £19 for the item itself was good.

Yes these are an excellent buy. Two things to point out for anyone thinking of buying any, you'll need the cable for programming which you can get for around £5 and compatible with most if not all Baofengs (some people have problems with the USB cable). Also they only work in back to back simplex mode so can't be used with a repeater or duplex system.

A real bargain for on site coms wanting low cost UHF 5 watt radios, for the price of one branded radio in The UK that does the same thing they can get 10+ Baofengs which are figures the accountant would like :laughs:

Do you need an amateur licence or similar to transmit using one, I've bought the 888s for use in vehicle convoys, and on site loading/unloading, I suppose the licensing issue would be dependant upon the frequency?

There is a lot of traffic on 400-470MHz including amatur radio (430-440MHz) and many business users.

There is an unlicensed area called PMR446 which is listed below but there are restrictions such as a max power of 0.5w and most Baofengs only go down to 1w.

PMR446 - 446.00625 , 446.01875 , 446.03125 , 446.04375 , 446.05625 , 446.06875 , 446.08125 & 446.09375

It may lead to a long thread as many people have different views however there is a law and it's up to the user if he/she decides to break it.

Effectively, you can't use it on PMR446 because it exceeds the 0.5watt limit, the amateur band would need an amateur licence, could you use it on an emptyish part of the band without a business licence?
