Also the beach patrols/foreshore officers sound interesting,do they use PMR446 do you know?If so then 320-512 should pick them up ok.

Nigel; Thanks,I didn't think to use the marine presets,I'll have to give them a go.

Do you mean PMR frequencies (licenced) - nobody with a safety of life system would work off pmr446.

They are licensed, as above, from the size of the base antennas, looks to be VHF spectrum. Id search in vhf area. Could be a simple base rather than a repeater, hard to tell as its all directional, fired parallel to the beach line. Let us know how you get on.

Whereabouts is this control base situated in relation to the pier please?I'll try and check it out and have a look at the antennae too.

To the left a bit if you are looking inland.

Its the forshore office, marked on google maps, and if you need a street reference, get to the odeon, and walk towards the sea, near there.

Nice one thanks, shouldn't be difficult to spot that.I'll stand fairly near to it and put CloseCall on to see what pops up.

I'll be getting shots of the old pier remains, and the i360 so plenty of chances.

That's the antenna in question

I've done a screen snip of that antenna photo, and posted it on an old mate's Facebook messenger. He's been a radio ham for over 50yrs plus electronics/radio engineer,I'm hoping he can identify if it's either NFM or UHF so I know what freq ranges to search for,C-Call can be a bit hit or miss sometimes.

I'll get back to you if/when I get more info.

Lifeguards picked up on 161.225 and the marina on ch80.
Using Closecall to search for unknown freqs was out of the question re the seafront antenna..far too busy getting the photos on my itinerary in the short time available.

It was the whole purpose of the trip. Thanks for the lifeguards freq though..very active.
