I read something about this in the current RadioUser magazine, they said it was a government agency that does surveillance and the author heard them conducting a mock pursuit on the streets and they where passing through red lights and where transmitting there exact location.

Have you heard them since SilverShadow and have you got any idea who it could be? I'm starting yo think its a private firm and not governmental.

It will be a firm buddy..no government surveillance unit would be so dumb as to use comms in the clear.. Even back in the day when I served in northern Ireland....surveillance units had analog communications and with that they used very strong digital encryption. Cougarnet was the old system and this was a very long time ago.. I would think government surveillance teams are very aware of us and our hobby. They wouldn't risk their communications being intercepted by us and possibly having it posted on YouTube..

Check out his link...good read

Given the environment the equipment had to be robust..for that the time it was the best gear around... Even our ECM equipment was very very good at stopping and detecting RIEDs...

Back to the radios, Government departments are most likely using Airwave with end to end encryption for any kind of surveillance operations :walkietalkie: :walkietalkie:
